Filled the Box Up with Some Nice Bottom Fish Out in the Deep!
Norfolk Portsmouth Lift Bridge - Norfolk (city), VA
The deep waters off Norfolk, VA have been producing solid results for bottom fishing this week. We ran offshore and put our anglers on a steady bite, dropping lines down to the ledges and wrecks where the fish were stacked up. By mid-trip, the box was filling fast with a variety of bottom dwellers.
What’s Been Biting: We’re seeing great numbers of black sea bass, triggerfish, and a few chunky golden tilefish in the mix. Some keeper-size grouper also made an appearance, giving anglers a good fight on the way up from the depths.
Best Setup: Heavy-duty bottom rigs with cut bait and squid are doing the trick. If you're targeting deeper wrecks, bring your electric reels or be ready for a workout.
Conditions: Calm seas and a light current made it easier to stay on the bite. Water temps are hovering around the mid-70s offshore—ideal for bottom species this time of year.
Now’s a great time to book a deep drop trip if you’re looking to fill the cooler with quality table fare. Spots are going fast as the summer bite heats up.
